Under Armour Gets @ChargeItSpot

October 23, 2015

Customers of Under Armour now have a place to go to power their phones for free while shopping thanks to the addition of ChargeItSpot charging stations at all of the company’s Brand House locations nationwide.

Under Armour Gets ChargeItSpot

Under Armour, the originator of performance footwear, apparel and equipment, is a retail innovator and an early adopter of this rapidly proliferating retail amenity. The ChargeItSpot charging kiosks are fully customizable and offer multiple opportunities for Under Armour to engage with consumers in the store. One example is the opt-in SMS message sent to each person who charges their phone. Under Armour uses this SMS to promote app downloads of UA Record, Under Armour’s pioneering social network for health and fitness enthusiasts. With the latest installation at the Mall of America location, charging stations are now available in all of Under Armour’s 10 Brand House stores and two factory outlets nationwide.

ChargeItSpot is the leading provider of secure phone charging stations in national retail stores, luxury retailers, casinos, hospitals, shopping centers/malls, universities, stadiums and other indoor public venues. Since its founding in 2011, ChargeItSpot has set out to solve the problem faced by millions of mobile phone-toting consumers every day – running out of ‘juice’ and no place to get a charge.

ChargeItSpot founder and CEO Douglas Baldasare told us “Our phone charging platform is proving to be a convenient amenity and engagement platform for Under Armour’s customers. Under Armour is also realizing additional value due to its widespread deployment; its marketing team is able to review data from consumer interactions enabling them to better understand and cater to their valued ‘athletes.’”

Christiana DiMattesa, senior retail marketing manager, Under Armour said “Our relationship with ChargeItSpot is helping us to reach our athletes in new and innovative ways while keeping them charged and connected. The ChargeItSpot kiosks allow us to provide an untraditional, undistracted way to better connect with our athletes. Through the data that customers share with us, we can continue our mission to further improve our athletes’ lives.”

ChargeItSpot charging stations can now be found in 17 North America states serving a broad range of retailers such as Neiman Marcus, Rite Aid, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Caesars Casinos and others. In the case of one national retail client, ChargeItSpot charging stations brought a substantial sales lift to chargers in its stores marked by a 29 percent lift in basket size, a 115 percent lift in customer dwell time and an increase in conversion of 54 percent, as measured by global market research firm, GfK.
