Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) July 30, 2015 — The need for accessibility is never greater than when we find ourselves rushing to the hospital. In an effort to provide comfort to patients as well as visiting friends and family during these critical moments, hospitals around the Pennsylvania region have adopted an innovative solution: freephone charging stations.
The stations – powered by ChargeItSpot, a Philadelphia-based startup that recently secured a $4M Series A – provide hospitals with a much-needed amenity that helps patients and their visitors stay connected. Medical centers such as the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, Beebe Healthcare in DE, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and the Allegheny General Hospital have installed ChargeItSpot stations in their waiting and emergency rooms where they typically see 40+ charges/day.
In addition to providing a free charge, some of the stations are also promoting organ donation awareness. Throughout the Summer of 2015, visitors of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Allegheny General Hospital, Millersville University, and the Harrisburg Capitol Building can get a complimentary phone charge from a DonateLife PA sponsored charging station. The creative campaign features charging stations wrapped with thought-provoking graphics that encourage discussion around the notoriously difficult topic of organ donation. Entitled “The Power to Give Life,” the campaign encourages organ donation sign-ups by sending every charging station user an SMS that reads: “We go out of our way to give life to our phones. Why don’t we take 30 seconds to give life to each other? Visit DonateLifePA.org to register.”
“The idea behind the collaboration,” explains ChargeItSpot Director of Client Success Jeffrey Bergeland, “is to engage people to think about how it takes the same amount of time and effort to keep a phone powered up as it is to keep a person alive. A simple phone charge – by turning someone into an organ donor – has the power to save a life.”
